Annotation

Why is Normanism so tenacious? This is not so much an academic question, which relates exclusively to the field of historical science, its methodological foundations, as an educational one, and it is connected with the fact that in history textbooks from generation to generation they tell children about how the Normans founded the Russian state. Is this a problem? Yes. For the younger generation does not form a sense of national self-sufficiency. Conversely. The glorification of Normanism in history textbooks leads to the formation of worship for everything foreign, especially Western. This leads to the fact that in the eyes of many Russians, they should blindly copy all the processes that are taking place in Europe. A reverse reaction is also formed: Europeans have a desire to teach Russians, to explain in a mentoring tone what is good and what is bad. Until it is possible to break the established trend of reflecting the issue of education of Russia in history textbooks, it is impossible to talk about a full-fledged process of forming patriotism among the younger generation. At the same time, it is necessary not to talk unfounded about the above problem, but to show by the example of concrete facts how the ideas about the inability of the Eastern Slavs to create their own state are laid down in history textbooks. This is the main purpose of this small study. As soon as we start scrolling through history textbooks of different years, we will see there how, implicitly, not directly, but the idea is traced that without the help of the Norman Vikings, the Eastern Slavs and Finno-Ugric peoples, who became an integral part of the Russian ethnos, could not create their own state. This statement, from our point of view, needs to be changed. In any case, it is necessary to designate different approaches in historical science about the process of politogenesis in the expanses of the Russian plain, and not to end the reasoning only with a retelling of the Norman theory.
