
The scientific journa MCU Journal of Historical Studies has been published since 2008.
The journal is included in the Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI). Since 2011, it has been part of the List of peer-reviewed scientific publications of the Higher Attestation Commission (VAK), in which the principal scientific results of dissertations for the degrees of Candidate of Sciences and Doctor of Sciences must be published. The journal is assigned to Category K3 (Q3).
The main content of the publication consists of scholarly articles, surveys, reviews, and evaluations corresponding to the scientific specialties 5.6.1 “National History” and 5.6.2 “World History”.

The journal’s mission is to disseminate information on fundamental and practically significant research results in the field of national history and world history, as well as in the sphere of history education.

Significant attention is paid to professional and academic discussion of new scholarly publications (monographs, collections of scholarly articles by domestic and foreign researchers, etc.), conducted in the format of book reviews.
The journal strives to ensure competitiveness among research schools and directions, foster scientific dialogue, and maintain a pluralism of scholarly opinions.
The journal is intended for domestic and foreign specialists in the humanities, researchers, degree candidates, students, and all those interested in history.
Materials submitted for publication are screened for duplication, unethical borrowing, AI-generated text, and undergo a mandatory peer-review procedure.
The journal is published quarterly (the indicated dates are approximate and subject to change):
- Issue 1 – Spring (~ April)
- Issue 2 – Summer (~ July)
- Issue 3 – Autumn (~ November)
- Issue 4 – Winter (~ February)
The annual number of articles is no fewer than 40.
The journal is published in print format; full texts of publications are available in the online version on the journal’s website in the “Archive of Issues“ section.
