Annotation

The article considers the draft of the New Irish Army proposed to Charles I by Earl Antrim. According to his plan, this army was to become an important instrument of the absolutist policy of the English monarchy, eliminate the threat from the Scottish covenanters, and also realize the personal ambitions of its creator. Despite the well-developed theoretical component of the project, sustained in line with the second stage of the military revolution, its full implementation was never implemented. The reason for this was both the personal conflicts of Antrim and the Governor of Ireland Wentworth, and the unresolved fiscal and financial problems in the royal treasury. In addition, an attempt to create an army consisting mainly of Catholics was a significant factor in increasing the polarization of English society on the eve of the events of the English Revolution.
