Annotation
The article is devoted to the aspects of the formation of Bulgaria’s foreign policy towards the Russian Empire in the period 1878–1885, when within the Bulgarian political
elite there was a reassessment of Russia’s political role in the liberation of the country in 1878 and there were new political guidelines that came into serious conflict with Russian foreign policy in the Balkans.The orientation of Bulgarian foreign policy towards Austria-Hungary in the early 1880s and attempts to maneuver between the great powers led to a crisis in relations with Russia and the fall of Prince Alexander Battenberg.
