Annotation

The article attempts to highlight the Russian historiography, the subject of which is the rhetorical school of Libanius in Antioch, as well as the rhetorician himself. The epistolary corpus of Libanius has been considered by many foreign researchers; we have separate monographs on Libanius and his school. In turn, domestic specialists are interested in Libanius in most cases episodically. Libanius, his rhetorical school, speeches and letters are considered in the context of individual topics. But even these references to the rhetorician are an essential addition to recreating the image of the teacher, as Libanius showed himself. Speeches, recitations, and most importantly — letters, all this helps to reveal the issues of the development of pedagogical education in the period of Late Antiquity in the Roman East. Thus, the purpose of this article is to study the works of domestic researchers concerning the subject of references to Libanius, his rhetorical school, speeches and letters.
