Annotation

In an article on the materials of Leningrad 1950–1960s it is proposed to analyze the conformity of housing conditions with the main postulates of the socialist way of life declared in the USSR. To this end, a more expanded interpretation of the definition of “housing conditions” is proposed, which, along with the housing issue, also includes cultural and leisure infrastructure near the places of residence of Leningrad residents. The attention paid to the study of the way of life in the Soviet Union is due to the fact that in modern Russian historiography this issue is not given attention, and the interest of researchers is concentrated on the analysis of the everyday life of a Soviet person. At the same time, modern conditions: significant archival material and the absence of ideological restrictions that did not allow Soviet scientists to adequately study this issue provide favorable conditions for an objective and detailed study of this important element of the Soviet era. Analysis of the living conditions of Leningraders in the 1950s – 1960s will allow to demonstrate to what extent the solution of the housing problem and the creation of the necessary cultural environment in new urban areas corresponded to the declared way of life of the Soviet people. At the same time, the article draws attention to the problems that have arisen in this area, which, of course, had a negative impact on the implementation of the basic postulates of the socialist way of life in practice. Such a demonstration of the achievements and shortcomings that were characteristic of the living conditions of Leningrad in the 1950s and 1960s will make it possible to avoid idealization or an overly critical assessment of the Soviet realities of these decades.
