Annotation
The article discusses the Soviet proletarian sport, the problems of organization and its inclusion in the international sports movement between the World Wars. In the context of the ideological confrontation that resulted from the social upheavals after the First World War, two trends were formed in the international sports movement — proletarian sport and bourgeois sport. In turn, the ambiguous assessments of the results of the October Revolution in Russia led to the split of the social-democratic movement and, as a result, to the split of the proletarian sport. To control the development of each of the sports areas, three representative sports organizations were formed, which held their own competitions between the World Wars — the Olympic Games, Workers’ Olympiads and Spartakiads. The analysis of the ideological confrontation in international sports allows us to identify the main conditions that led to the isolation of Soviet sports in the interwar period. The article also points out
the reasons why, on the eve of the Second World War, the Soviet Union recognized the necessity for more active participation of Soviet athletes in the international sports movement. The result of this process was the entry of Soviet athletes into the Olympic family.
