Annotation
The article is devoted to the problem of the prehistory of the revolution of 1905–1907. 1902 was the time when the approximation of a future revolution in Russia
became more or less obvious to everyone. The policy of freezing the country has clearly exhausted its resources. All the contradictions that will soon lead to an unprecedented social explosion have escalated: national, agrarian, and workers. Against this background, the liberal movement and student demonstrations intensified. For its part, the Government has demonstrated its complete inability to respond to the challenges of the times on a large scale and creatively, resorting to force as a universal way to resolve issues. It was a dead-end policy that would soon bring the country to the brink of a systemic political catastrophe.
