Annotation

One of the most difficult problems in the study of various historical processes is to clarify the issues related to national characters that influence these processes and at the same time are themselves derived from the same processes. The to pic of the article is relevant both in the academic context due to the lack of knowledge, and based on the geopolitical realities. The Ukrainian national character was formed under the influence of geographical and climatic factors, belonging to the East Slavic world, proximity to the Turkic space, steppe nomads, Catholic countries, and Western Slavs, and this is not a complete list of circumstances of influence. The purpose of this article is to examine, using the historical and genetic method and the method of logical analysis, the impact on the formation of the Ukrainian national character of the factor of the Zaporozhians. Their military activities, their attitude to Orthodoxy, to state power, to the allies, the formula of their inner daily life, self–identification, the image of an optimal social structure — all this was projected onto the mentality of the Little Russians and almost decisively influenced the formation of the national character that they have to deal with in the current situation.
