Annotation
This article analyzes the socio-political and economic situation in Iran during the reign of the Qajars in the early twentieth century. The behavior of the political elite is considered against the background of the struggle of various foreign powers for influence in this country, as well as the negative impact of dependence on foreign capital, feudal orders on the country’s economy and the social status of the population. In this context, the main features of the socio-political relations formed in South Azerbaijan during the period under study are determined. The article also analyzes the influence of the First World War and revolutionary movements in Russia on the political situation in Iran. One of the characteristic features of the socio-political situation in Iran during this period was that the Shiite clergy played an important role in the life of the country. Following the British, Germany and the United States also began to penetrate into Iran, which at that time were rapidly strengthening their positions in the world economic and political space. At the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century, the process of polarization and blockade in the world manifested itself in the activities of foreign states in Iran and deepened the crisis in the country.
