Annotation

This article attempts to explore the social characteristics of various strata of Soviet society. A large array of statistical data was used for the analysis. In the work, Soviet society is considered in several sections: professional, demographic, gender, educational, etc. The social priorities of Soviet citizens, the features of their professional activities and recreation are studied. Despite certain successes in previous periods, nevertheless, by the end of its existence, the USSR lost the dynamics of social development, which predetermined the events of 1985–1991.
