Annotation

The article is devoted to the study of state policy in relation to the religious movement, called the “Johannites”. This religious group was formed in the depths of the Church. Its specific feature was the cult of Archpriest John of Kronstadt. The aim is to trace the attitude of the state authorities towards the Johannites. In this article, the author analyzes the reasons for the state persecution of the Johannites, the activities of government structures to protect civil rights in connection with the fraudulent activities of the Johannites. Special attention is paid to the degree of political loyalty of the Johannites. New sources are being introduced into scientific circulation, allowing us to examine the state policy of the Russian Empire in relation to the Johannites from various angles. In the course of the research, the author identified the peculiarities of confessional policy towards a new religious group in the Russian Empire.
