Annotation

This article is devoted to the relationship between representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church in the Vladimir province and the new government, represented by the Vladimir Provincial Provisional Executive Committee (VGVIK). After the February Revolution, noticeable changes began to take place in the church sphere, including relations between the church and the state, and the influence of the laity on church life noticeably increased. The Vladimir Provincial Provisional Executive Committee, which is the local government in the province, following in the wake of the decisions of the Provisional Government, practically did not interfere in church life, leaving the clergy and laity to resolve pressing issues themselves. Only once, in the matter of the resignation of Archbishop Alexy, did VGVIK consider it necessary to intervene, supporting the demand for the removal of the bishop from office.
