Annotation

The paper describes the attitude of Russian right-wing political parties in the early XXth century (members of the Black Hundred and nationalists) toward the alliance of the Russian Empire with France and Great Britain. The paper testifies a strong relationship of domestic political attitudes of Russian right-wingers with their foreignpolicy views. Common and different features of perception by Russian right-wing royalists of the French Republic and the British Empire are being noted; attempts of multi-pronged approach to separate nations from their governments are addressed. Based on a wide range of sources, some of which are introduced into scientific discourse for the first time, it is proved that the Russian right-wing camp was not united in their attitude toward France and Great Britain, and positions of the members of the Black Hundred and nationalists varied notably on this subject. Whereas the Russian extreme right-wingers strained after separation of the Russian Empire from too close relations with England and France, the moderate right-wingers expressed approval of rapprochement with those countries. It is demonstrated that the specific foreign-policy situation had a very significant effect on rhetoric of rightwingers in regard to Great Britain and France: prior to the outbreak of war, the members of the Black Hundred did not see the use of the alliance with republican France and were outspokenly critical of the union with parliamentary England, in the war of the Allies against Germany the Russian extreme right-wingers on pragmatic grounds either changed or softened their stand, and after the February revolution, wholly losing faith in allied nations, again fell back to criticism addressed to them.
