Annotation
This article addresses one of the brightest pages in history of Russian higher education — higher education of women. This topic was vividly discussed in Russian society of the second half of XIX century, calling forth various opinions. A popular conservative paper “Moskovskie Vedomosti”, with Mikhail Nikiforovich Katkov as it’s chief editor, was
not left out of the debate. The authors of this article have attempted to analyse the opinions on women’s higher education that were stated on pages of the journal. This work clarifies our ideas about the multitude of opinions on the topic of women’s higher education in the second half of XIX century.
