Annotation
The research is devoted to the professional activities of the local historian of Moscow Pyotr Nikolaevich Miller (1867–1943) and is based on documentary materials from his personal funds stored in the OPI GIM and the Museum of Moscow. The name of Peter Nikolaevich Miller is inextricably linked with the public local history organizations of Moscow during the «golden decade» of local history in the 1920s and with the scientific stage of studying the history of the city. Pyotr Nikolaevich is one of the outstanding historians of Moscow, the ideologist, creator and curator of the funds of the Old Moscow Museum, a staunch supporter of the need for systematic archaeological excavations in Moscow, the initiator of the creation of a multi — volume scientific publication on the history of the capital and the Chronicles of the Great Patriotic War at the Institute of History of the USSR Academy of Sciences. But his name is now known only to a limited circle of specialists, it is not found in monographic
publications and in the works of his contemporaries on the history of Moscow. The main purpose of the study is to study P. N. Miller’s contribution to the formation of scientific approaches to the history of Moscow, based on the analysis of his archival funds. Starting this work, the authors also sought to lift the veil of secrecy over the fate of Peter Nikolaevich Miller’s scientific heritage.
