Annotation

This article is devoted to the latest literature on one of the prominent theorists and practitioners of Russian populism I. I. Kablitze-Yuzov. It analyzes the main stages of formation and development of modern “Kablitze-Yuzov”, his main achievements and some controversial issues. Joseph Kablitz has passed a difficult path from the youthful maximalism of the seventies to the mature pragmatism of the populists in the 1880s, which reflects the general trend in the ideological evolution of Narodnikism in the last third of the XIXth century. It is not by chance that the intellectual biography of Kablitz, his books on schism, the basis of Russian populism and the relationship between the intelligentsia and the people still attract the attention of researchers. Over the past 30 years, the study of Kablitz’s views and activities, including as an ideologist of right-wing populism, has made significant progress. The author refers to the main achievements of the modern Russian historiography as: first, the appearance of a more detailed political biography of Kablitz, accessible through encyclopedias to the general reader; second, a more thorough study of the features of his populism and the (essentially cultural) program of social transformation advocated by him; and, finally, the inclusion of “outsider” Kablitz in the general typology of Russian populism, as a representative of its extreme right wing, which, according to the author, is evidence of maturity of modern Russian narodnikovedeniya.
