Annotation
The author based on Marsilius of Padua’s works reconstructs the thinker’s idea of «the transference of the empire», i. e. the specific of Rome’s statehood idea perception in medieval Europe with convincing completeness. The article shows the concept of «translatio imperii» was not an abstract «language instrument» for Marsilius of Padua. I his
treatises and at first in his specific work «On the Transference of the Empire» the thinker demonstrated consistency of holding his theory according to which European civilisation inherited the fundamental grounds of Roman one and a strong supreme secular power, in spite of church writers’ opinions, is not artificial but organic phenomenon of the political and social life in the medieval West.
